My name is Jenna, I'm 18 and I just really like to write about music. If you like the music do me a favour. Go out and check out the bands, buy a CD and contribute something to the bands. They deserve so much more than we give them. Support! Twitter: www.twitter.com/TheMixedBlog Formspring: www.formspring.me/TheMixedBlog
Due to my own lack of interest, I will not be continuing this blog.
I want to thank anyone who took the time to read, suggest songs or message me about this blog. I want to thank you for your support and kind words. I started this blog almost two years ago. I wanted to explore music and review songs which I did. It also helped me discover my love for journalism and cultivate an entirely new person in me.
Unfortunately, like one song is not an accurate representation of a artist or band, song reviews is not an accurate representation of a journalist, especially an aspiring pop culture journalist. Song reviews became tedious and bleak for me. The only challenge I was having was to bring myself to update. For these reasons, The Mixed Blog has come to an end.
I will be starting two new blogs though. One is my story writing blog, this is under the URL memorieswillfadetogether.tumblr.com. The second will be an exploration into pop culture, music, movies, sports and how they relate to us. I will be announcing the URL for that one sometime over the next week or so.
Once again, I would like to thank you. Without you this idea, this blog and, most importantly for me, this new part of me, would never have been possible. The Mixed Blog and you will always have a special place in my heart.
Thank you.
Foster the People- Torches
I cannot jump off the Foster the People bandwagon right now. I am so far on it, I think I became the driver. This band is different, it’s exciting and it doesn’t sound like anything I usually listen to. So when I saw the CD for cheap in HMV a couple weeks, you bet your ass that I bought that right up. When my laptop decided to stop letting me use the disk drive, I even bought it on iTunes instead of just illegally downloading it that is how much I love this album.
If you like mellow music with a good, strong beat you’ll love Foster the People. It’s got an almost electro-folk sound to it. The only downfall to their music is that each song is very repetitive. The repetitiveness, in turn, makes the songs very catchy like Don’t Stop and Pumped Up Kicks. Even if at first you do not enjoy these songs, you’ll slowly finding yourself singing them to yourself. You’ll curse yourself and then a few days later, you’ll download it. Then you’ll download the entire album, Torches, and I will welcome you on the Foster the People bandwagon.
I definitely suggest downloading Helena Beat. I think it is a great kick off to the album and an overall fantastic song. Try something different, try a little Foster the People.
I’m going to work on this Tumblr again.
But I’m going to open it up to concert reviews, album reviews, opinion pieces and playlist suggestions as well as the normal song recommendations. Also, I’m opening it up to submissions of YOUR own work so, if you have any reviews, opinion pieces or even just song suggestions, I urge you to send them to me. The more submissions I have from you guys the more I will work on this Tumblr.
I love you guys!

#213- Tonight Tonight by Hot Chelle Rae
Warning, this song is so catchy, it may just kill you. Okay, not really but, it is catchy to the point where you will be singing it next week, like it or not and its fun. Actually, listening to this song makes me wonder how Tonight Tonight is not huge on the radio. They have the perfect mix of fun, bouncy music, great vocals and relatable lyrics.
How do I explain Hot Chelle Rae? Well, they are awesome. They’ve toured with The Academy is…, Third Eye Blind, Boys Like Girls, been on Warped Tour and they work hard. They’ve been together since 2005 and dropped their first album Lovesick Electric in 2009. Now with their new single, Tonight Tonight, they are on their way to getting big. Tonight Tonight is one of those songs that you feel like you have to sing along too because it is just that much fun. With lyrics like, “I woke up with a strange tattoo, not sure how I got it, not a dollar in my pocket and it kinda looks just like you mixed with Zach Galifianakis” you just have to sing.
If you like bubbly pop punk music, come listen to Hot Chelle Rae. You will not regret it and you’ll be giving recognition to a band who really deserve it. If that doesn’t entice you then here’s my last attempt at getting you to watch; one of the guys in Hot Chelle Rae MIGHT be Chord Overstreet’s brother and Chord may or may not be in the Tonight Tonight video. Just watch.
#212- Jet Lag by Simple Plan featuring Marie-Mai
So, my friend Sarah is a crazy ridiculous Simple Plan fan. She actually scares me sometimes. Anyway, we were hanging out at her house and talking about the new music that was coming out to which she got excited and asked me if I had listened to any of the new Simple Plan stuff. I said no so, she glared at me and told me to go on their website where we listened to Jet Lag featuring Natasha Bedingfield. I loved it. Then we listened to the French/English version with Marie-Mai.
When people say things are just better in a different language, it is completely true. Jet Lag the English version is great but, Jet Lag the French version made me want to listen to it a thousand times. Pierre Bouvier’s voice is amazing but, something about him singing in his native Quebecois language, it sounds so much more natural. I say Quebecois by the way because Simple Plan is from Montreal and they speak French but, it’s more slang.
Basically, after all that rambling, what I’m trying to say is listen to Jet Lag. I can’t really explain it more than that. Simple Plan is probably the band that has done the best job of growing up and maturing their music while sticking to their roots and they have full restored my faith in the new music coming out this year. Listen and you’ll love it.

agentmockingjay: Oops, I forgot, thanks for the follow! :D
You are absolutely welcome, thank you for following first!

agentmockingjay: I'm so ashamed that I haven't found your blog and followed it until now. My life is 130x better with new songs and bands to check out.
Thank you for being awesome!
Thank you for reading! :) I’m going to try and update as much as possible now!

hurricane-head: I absolutely love what you just wrote about Fall out boy's "Take This To Your Grave". I am an enormous Fall out boy fan, and TTTYG is not my favourite album, although I do adore it. But you're right, so many fans say it's the best record just to please a small part of the fandom, and secure themselves as a "real" fan. I completely agree with what you said about favourite albums and emotional ties being different than what should be considered "the best album". FUCT is my favourite, although I wouldn't say it's their best, I completely admit it's my favourite, because of the emotional ties I have with it.
I'm just rambling now, but I just wanted to say, I loved what you wrote and I agree with so much you said.
Thank you!
This was a completely opinion based piece that I was trying out on my blog. Typically, I only write little song posts but, I wanted to experiment with something with a little bit more substance. I’m glad you agree and thank you for taking the time to read! It means a lot.
